Woman Wins $1 Million For Falling Off Step
1 min readA 34 year old woman has won a payout of $1 million dollars because she fell off a “safety step” at a Coles supermarket in Canberra.
The ACT Supreme Court ruled that her employer should have trained her how to use a “safety step”.
The payout was:
$1,088,468.53 in compensation
$222,200 general damages
$570,229 for past and future economic loss
$236,039 for past and future medical expenses
The whole argument for the plaintiff was that she was not trained on how to actually use a step which Justice Linda Ashford agreed with the plaintiff that employers should train employees how to use steps and not doing so makes them liable.
